The Department of Biochemistry is established on 15 June 2006 as a vocational course under the Department of Chemistry in govt. Nagarjuna PG College of science Raipur. Biochemistry is one of the most advanced branches of life sciences and job oriented course, started by this college. After the successful run of 6 Years, the Department of Biochemistry is originated as a separate department on 15 June 2012. Now the department is well established in their syllabus, laboratories, libraries, faculty, and other staff.
VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT —
Develop research aptitude and skills in students.
To ensure a maximum number of students may able to qualify NET-JRF.
MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:
1. The department is dealing with the most important dimension of human and animal health. Biochemistry of animals and plants is the base of diseases and their cure may be uncovered by the knowledge of biochemical properties of animal and plant. The Biochemistry department can play their role to abolish regional malnutrition problem recognizing Genetic diseases secure food availability and conservation of endangered plant species in this region. Therefore department focus to prepare students for the same.
2. The aim of our department is to developing Research aptitude in students because of the enormous strength of the Biochemistry in the research field. The associated and independent research which is dealing with molecules of life can open the way of discovery of several life-saving medicines.
3. The aim of our department is to develop skills to graduate and postgraduate students that they may absorb as a research scientist, research associates, Biochemists in pharmacy companies, as an analyst in diagnostic labs, as manager in production wings of pharmacological companies, teaching field etc.

1. Choice of the subject by top scored students.
2. Excellent results.
3. Excellent support from the allied subject department.
4. Sufficient fund.
Weaknesses:
1. Lack of Well equipped labs.
2. Lack of Proper classrooms.
3. Lack of sufficient staff.
4. Fund allotment by the college to the department is irregular and insufficient.
Opportunities:
1. The demand for Subject is high.
2. Job opportunities are high in pharmaceutical companies.
3. Fund related opportunities are high because college is situated in the capital area.
Threat / Challenges:
1. Govt. Related jobs are a few.

§ Training of students in reputed pharmaceutical companies.
§ Increasing the interdepartmental co-operation to benefiting students.
§ Arrangement of the new lab with the help of College administration and improving existing labs with the help of different funds.
§ Purchasing of good types of equipment and Books.
§ Providing better facilities for carrier guidance, NET Exam preparation, M. Sc. Entrance exam preparation by extra class for brilliant students and special and remedial classes for weaker students.
§ Increasing cooperation with the allied department.
