Principal’s Desk:

APJ Abdul Kalam has said, “Excellence is a continuous process and not an accident.”

We believe that the purpose of education is to nurture excellent human beings with the true values of humanity deeply ingrained in their psyche. The youth that leave the portals of this college should be world citizens with empathy and kindness. The future of the country and the world is in their hands.

The pursuit of knowledge, aligned with imagination and creative zeal can transform the universe. We groom our students to leave footprints on the sands of time.

The College, established in 1948, is devotedly committed to the pursuit of academic excellence in science, adhering to the core values of a holistic education. The vision and mission of the College prioritises science, research, employment, and pursuit of quality education. It has rendered unprecedented service to the region since its foundation. It offers PhD, PG and UG programs in Science. Commendable research work in Science defines the institution.

The institution was initially Adarsh Mahavidyalaya, a Model College. It is the first college of the region to get autonomous status, and be declared a Centre with Potential for Excellence. It is the lead college of Raipur district.

Chhattisgarh’s geographical, geological, sociological, economic and demographic characteristics set the keynote for all policy and academic decisions.

The college boasts of a green sprawling campus, hostels for boys and girls, sports fields, canteen and other amenities. The college has museums in Zoology, Geology and Defence Studies; a Botanical garden, a rich Library, an auditorium, smart classrooms, guest house, post office and a health centre.

The highly qualified and experienced faculty are committed to their profession, and new areas of studies are constantly added to the syllabus, revealing the foresight of the institution in preparing students for a bright future. It is the only institution in Chattisgarh to have a research centre for Defence Studies. Chhattisgarh is a region facing Maoist violence and threats in Bastar, an area of deep forests and rough terrain. Given this context, research work in this field gains prime importance. The institution honours its martyrs, Rajeev Pandey and Yugal Kishore Verma.

Rural industry training; mushroom cultivation; industrial visits; field trips; fisheries; film and media training and others have been organized. CITCON entrepreneur programs which shall help students in the Chhattisgarh government’s MSME (Middle, Small, and Micro Enterprises) initiatives have been organized. Skill development; Kaushal Vikas programs; computer literacy drives; placement initiatives help in employment. The institution aims to be linked to the government’s NGGB (Narva, Garua, Ghurva and Baadi) program.

The incredibly large and impressive Alumni Association has renowned doctors, engineers, educationists, Vice Chancellors of Universities and highly placed civil servants, defence personnel, writers and thinkers. Leadership qualities are ingrained in the students and the alumni have served as MPs and MLAs. Honourable Shri Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister of the state is an alumni. Padmashri Dr Dabke is an honoured alumni.

Dr Uma Das Mukherjee, the Founder Principal and many other stalwarts in the field of education have left a rich legacy to be honoured and cherished. Dr Narendra Dev Verma, the visionary lyricist of the state song, “Arpa pairi ke dhaar...”walked the corridors of this college as a Professor. Most of the architects who have shaped and are shaping Chhattisgarh have been a part of our esteemed institution. We salute them.

We visualize the college as an Institute of Science and are working towards this goal. Humanities and Social Sciences shall be a part of the institute as we are living in an age that is defined by an interdisciplinary liberal education system, as expressed by the futuristic vision of the drafters of the NEP 2020.

I end with a quote from Mahatma Gandhi.

“What is really needed to make democracy function is not knowledge of facts, but right education.”
